laser surgery

Your skilled podiatrist can get you back on your feet in no time often with using the laser.  The Laser can be used to safely treat skin, nail and nerve problems on your feet.

It can be an excellent alternative to traditional surgery because it causes less tissue damage, less bleeding, and less swelling.  As a result you will experience less pain, less risk of infection and shorter healing time, which leads to fewer complications overall.

Laser Technology may seem like a mysterious and complicated science, but really its not.  The laser works similar as a sunbeam to treat your foot problem, restore the function if any was lost and improve your foot's appearance.

Laser surgery is commonly used to treat Ingrown Nails, Fungus Nails, Warts, Skin Defects and Neuromas, just to name a few.

Removing an Ingrown Nail:

Your doctor treats an ingrown nail by removing the curved part of the nail and using the laser to destroy the cells that cause your nail to grow into your toe.  Your doctor permanently narrows your nail because the nail is just too big for your toe.  The ingrown portion usually doesn't grow back.

Removing a Fungus Nail:

A Fungus nail may be treated by trimming the diseased nail plate and removing the underlying fungus with Laser.  Typically the nail grows back in several months.  Another procedure is to make tiny holes in the nail so an antifungal medicine can be poured in them.  Fungus nails may reoccur.

Removing Warts:

Warts are removed by vaporizing the water in the tissue with the laser, and sealing the blood vessels afterward.  The remaining area will gradually fill in with new cells.  Although less likely after laser treatment, warts are caused by a virus and so may reoccur.

Removing a Skin Defect:

Laser removes skin defects by vaporizing the fluid in the affected tissue.  Laser can treat a defect in any skin layer, but it may not get rid of it entirely, depending on the depth and size of your original defect.  A small depression may remain after surgery, which eventually fills in with new cells.

Removing a Neuromas:

With the laser, your podiatrist will make an incision and remove the neuroma.  Afterward, the nerve endings are sealed so they heal properly.  You may have numb areas on the inside of your toes, but this should not affect your walking or any other activities.
